Welcome to the Shop Kir Devries “Love An UGLY Box" Campaign
We felt a little funny taking an item that’s already in a box, putting it in another box and filling it with craft paper just to deliver it. Still, we want your package to arrive safely so we came up with the “Love An UGLY Box” campaign to help save a few trees! About 70% of all cardboard is recycled (that’s great) but even the recycling process can have some negative effects on our environment plus new trees may potentially have to be cut down to make the new boxes to replace them. If we can all re-use our boxes before recycling it will be even better for our planet.
How Does the Program Work:
- We collect and save boxes and packaging material and reuse it in a secure and efficient ways to safely deliver your packages to you in a “pre-loved” box. Sometimes we need to use a brand new box but that’s ok too because now we can count on you to re-use it for us!
- Your box might arrive with a “Love An UGLY Box” campaign stamp and a short note about the campaign inside.
- Simply re-use the box,and feel really good about saving a tree and participating in the program.
Tips for Re-Using cardboard boxes:
- use labels when addressing your boxes so the next user can peel it off or place their label over yours. Avoid writing directly on the box or excessively taping labels to the outside of the box.
- -Secure your box shut with tape along the seam where the flaps close. Of course you want it to be secure but you also want the next user to be able to remove the tape with out tearing or destroying the box. Sometimes gobs of tape helps with an older box but sometimes it’s overkill too. Right ?
- Save & reuse the packing (bubble wrap, peanuts, craft paper etc).
- Super fragile items can be secured & cushioned in your shredded paper instead of packing peanuts.
Some Interesting Recycling Facts:
- Out of ever $10 spent buying things, $1 (10%) goes for packaging that is thrown away. Packaging represents about 65% of household trash.
- Each ton (2000 pounds) of recycled paper can save 17 trees, 380 gallons of oil, three cubic yards of landfill space, 4000 kilowatts of energy, and 7000 gallons of water. This represents a 64% energy savings, a 58% water savings, and 60 pounds less of air pollution!
- The 17 trees saved (above) can absorb a total of 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year. Burning that same ton of paper would create 1500 pounds of carbon dioxide.
